About the role
JOB SUMMARYMore in Common is looking for a Chief of Staff. This is a new role and a rare opportunity to help shape the next phase of a fast-growing global organisation working on some of the most urgent issues of our time, working at the CEO's side with a unique vantage point across our country teams, strategy and network of funders and partners worldwide. (Please note that the preferred London location is for ease of communication with Tim Dixon, who is based in the UK. The postholder will not be involved in the day-to-day polling and research activities of More in Common UK, and will not report or routinely provide support to our Executive Director in the UK, Luke Tryl.) ABOUT MORE IN COMMONMore in Common is a nonprofit dedicated to understanding the dynamics of polarisation, and identifying solutions that can strengthen social cohesion and confidence in democracy. We help leaders navigate the dynamics of polarisation more effectively, find common ground and bring people together to address shared challenges. More in Common's work is frequently featured in media and used by leaders in government, nonprofits, philanthropy, education, the arts and business. We have a country-led model, with work deeply rooted in national contexts and led by country directors in each of our seven countries, with a total headcount approaching 100. Our teams generate research insights, translate them into thought leadership, and disseminate and implement them across a wide ecosystem of partners and stakeholders. We hold relationships with leaders in many sectors of society, across politics, media, business, civil society, philanthropy, culture and faith, and from national leaders to local community groups. Recent work has produced fresh insights into public attitudes on immigration, online safety, nature and the energy transition, Ukraine, and democracy. ABOUT THIS ROLEThis is a rare opportunity to help shape the next phase of a fast-growing global organisation working on some of the most urgent issues of our time, working at the CEO's side with a unique vantage point across our country teams, strategy and network of funders and partners worldwide. The Chief of Staff is a new role, created as More in Common transitions from its founding phase, when the organisation was led by its co-founders, to sole CEO leadership. It incorporates a senior adviser role, in which the Chief of Staff will be the principal aide, advisor and coordinator to the global CEO Tim Dixon, ensuring priorities advance, decisions move efficiently and commitments are executed. The Chief of Staff will also act as organisational glue: working closely with More in Common’s team of country leaders and directors, ensuring alignment between country executive directors, the global team and the CEO around More in Common's strategy, programmes and operations, and helping spot and resolve problems before they escalate. RESPONSIBILITIES Strategy Strategic counsel: Trusted thought partner to the CEO on strategy and major decisions, drawing on visibility across the whole organisation and ensuring alignment within its country-led model. CEO communications: Shapes the CEO’s internal and external communications, and absorbs the coordination, communication, and follow-through work that would otherwise pull the CEO away from key public-facing responsibilities. Organisational coordination CEO workflow: Manages the CEO's priorities, time and decision pipeline with the Senior Executive Coordinator, so the right issues get attention and decisions don't stall. Team alignment and delivery: Keeps global and country teams aligned on shared priorities, facilitates decision-making across the organisation, and leads special projects requiring senior-level attention. Leadership Country ED support: Liaises with country Executive Directors on the CEO's behalf, identifying where teams need more support and providing assistance in crises. Talent and succession: Supports leadership succession
